It’s been one of the hottest summers on record which has turned the nation’s gardens from lush green to barren brown.
While the scorching spell of hot weather has ravaged gardens since mid-June, the start of much-needed downpours has seen sales of Wickes water butts and accessories increase by 146% so far this August compared to the same period last year, as consumers look at long-term solutions to cope with future heatwaves.
And with cooler temperatures and more rain forecast over the coming weeks, this weekend could see the start of the great British garden fix, with Wickes bosses stocking up on essential lawncare products following an expected surge in customer demand to bring the nation’s gardens back to life.
A Wickes spokesperson said: “The recent hot weather has brought plenty of sunshine, but the high temperatures and lack of rain left lawns bone-dry, patchy and unhealthy. People are hoping their grass will recover – and the good news is, it will, with a little TLC. With more rain on the horizon and temperatures starting to cool, we anticipate a surge in sales on all our lawn repair products this weekend as customers gear up for a great garden fix up mission”.
